Grocery and retail orders on Uber Eats surged by 88% in 2024, reflecting a growing preference for online shopping. The latest Cravings Report highlights the most popular foods, surprising trends, and unique customer habits.
Kenyans showed a strong love for traditional flavors, with chicken biryani, beef pilau, mutton biryani, chicken pilau, and maharagwe ya nazi with chapati ranking among the most-ordered meals. These dishes remained favorites throughout the year, proving that local cuisine continues to dominate online food orders.

When it came to searches, Quickmart stood out as the most popular term across the country. In Eldoret, many users searched for “grocery”, while in Kisumu, “Java” topped the list. These searches reflected the specific shopping habits of different regions, showing how convenience plays a crucial role in daily life.
One store attracted more customers than any other. Chandarana Foodplus at Adlife Plaza received 280 orders, making it the most-ordered-from merchant. The most purchased items included Brookside 500ml Dairy Best (pouch), Ajab 2kg Home Baking Flour, Pembe 2kg Maize Meal, Soko 2kg Maize Meal, and Pembe 2kg Home Baking Flour. These essentials remained in high demand throughout the year, indicating that Uber Eats played a key role in household shopping.

Some customers placed small, frequent orders, but others went all out. One shopper spent a staggering Kshs. 119,000 in a single order, filling their cart with Heineken Beer, Corona Beer, White Cap Beer, Bocada Rosé, Famille Perrin Rosé, Ca Di Rajo Prosecco, Bocada Red Wine, and Famille Perrin White and Red Wine. This massive purchase showed that Uber Eats is not just for meals but also for premium drinks and special occasions.
For some users, ordering became a daily habit. One loyal customer placed orders on 305 days of the year, nearly every day, proving just how much people rely on the platform. Another user turned Fridays into a tradition, making 49 Friday orders in 2024, possibly for a weekly date night or personal treat.

Delivery drivers also had a busy year, with one completing an impressive 6,500 trips. To put that into perspective, that’s the same as driving from Nairobi to Cape Town seven times! The report also revealed that Kenyans add a personal touch to their orders with unique requests, reflecting their personality and preferences.
