The Nairobi Hospital successfully hosted the Magical Kenya Medical Tourism Forum, uniting healthcare providers, tourism experts, and government officials under one roof. The gathering at the hospital’s Amphitheatre marked a significant step in Kenya’s push to become a regional leader in medical tourism.
Organized collaboratively by Magical Kenya and the Kenya Tourism Board, the forum created space for meaningful dialogue about Kenya’s potential in this lucrative sector. Participants examined both the opportunities and obstacles facing the country’s medical tourism ambitions.
Recent data from Ken Research reveals staggering growth potential, with the global medical tourism market projected to surpass Sh5.2 trillion ($40 billion) by 2025. This expansion stems from multiple factors including an increasingly elderly global population, widening healthcare disparities, and rapid technological advancements in medicine.

While Kenya already attracts approximately 5,000 medical tourists annually – primarily from neighboring East African nations – industry leaders recognize the need for more structured development. The current organic growth, while promising, requires strategic direction to maximize its potential.
Mr. Samuel Odede, OGW, Director of Medical Services & Research at The Nairobi Hospital, highlighted Kenya’s competitive advantages. “Our nation takes pride in its world-class medical facilities, highly trained specialists, and cutting-edge healthcare infrastructure,” he noted. “Through stronger collaboration between healthcare and tourism sectors, we can build an industry that benefits both our economy and patients from across the globe.”
