Kenya Airways Collaborates with Mang’u High School to Inspire Future Aviators.

Kenya Airways has donated a decommissioned Boeing 737-700 Next Generation (NG) aircraft to Mang’u High School. This groundbreaking initiative aims to inspire future aviation professionals and enhance students’ learning experiences.

To begin with, the aircraft donation provides a unique opportunity for students to engage in hands-on learning. It allows them to develop a deeper understanding of aviation systems and operations. Moreover, this collaboration emphasizes the shared commitment of Kenya Airways and Mang’u High School to advancing STEM and aviation education.

In 2023, a Mang’u High School delegation inspected and formally accepted the decommissioned aircraft. Consequently, this marked the beginning of an inspiring journey that makes the school the first in Africa to house a Boeing 737-700 NG as a classroom.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Kenya Airways Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer, Hellen Mathuka, expressed her excitement about the project. She said, “This aircraft, which once connected people across the globe, now embarks on a new chapter. At Mang’u High School, it will serve as a hands-on resource to prepare students for careers in aviation, engineering, and technology.

”The Boeing 737-700 NG will significantly enrich the school’s existing aviation program, which already includes a caravan aircraft. Furthermore, this addition will equip students with practical insights and technical skills at the secondary school level.

Anthony Maina Mithanga, Chairman of Mang’u High School, described the project as transformative. He stated, “The aircraft reinforces the principle, ‘What you can see, you can be.’ It will inspire our students to dream big, innovate, and excel in aviation and beyond.

”This initiative was made possible through a collaborative effort by Kenya Airways, the KCB Foundation, Crown Paints, and Bonafide Group. Together, their technical teams will reassemble and install the aircraft at the school, ensuring it becomes a vital educational tool.

Additionally, Kenya Airways engages students at its Embakasi hub to provide them with real-world exposure. They interact with pilots, engineers, and other professionals, gaining valuable industry insights. This hands-on approach underscores Kenya Airways’ commitment to nurturing the next generation of aviation experts.

Over the years, Mang’u High School has contributed significantly to Kenya Airways’ workforce. Currently, over 40 pilots and 20 aeronautical engineers in the airline are alumni of the school.

Ultimately, this partnership addresses the growing deman9d for skilled professionals in Africa’s aviation sector. It also reaffirms Kenya Airways’ dedication to fostering innovation and driving progress in the industry.
