Nairobi, Kenya – July 30, 2025 – Global stationery giant BIC has reaffirmed its long-term commitment to Kenya’s economy through expanded local manufacturing, job creation, and support for education.
During a media tour at its Kasarani plant in Nairobi, BIC showcased its strong regional presence and growing impact. The factory, a key pillar in BIC’s Horizon growth strategy, serves both Kenyan and export markets, producing millions of products each year.
The Kasarani plant is more than just a factory. It’s a regional hub that powers BIC’s operations across East Africa, helping the company grow while boosting Kenya’s manufacturing sector.
“Local manufacturing is at the heart of everything we do,” said Paloma Lengema, BIC East Africa’s General Manager. “We’re proud to create jobs, support value chains, and produce for local and regional needs all while operating sustainably.”
Since launching its Kenya subsidiary in 2019, BIC has hired over 300 Kenyans and partnered with numerous local businesses. The result is a ripple effect creating both direct and indirect employment while supporting families and communities.
Beyond business, BIC is investing in education. Its popular Buy Me and BIC Will Donate a Pen campaign has distributed over 1.5 million pens and reached 150,000 students this year. Another initiative, Express Myself with My BIC Pen, has helped more than 50,000 students embrace creativity through writing.
BIC’s operations in Kenya also include lighters and shavers, catering to diverse consumer needs. With its global goal to support 250 million students by 2025, the company is making real progress over 200 million students have already benefited.
From manufacturing to mentorship, BIC East Africa is writing a new chapter for Kenya’s future one pen, one job, one idea at a time.
