Two hundred and fifty young people in Dagoretti North have taken a decisive step into the digital economy after completing the DigiTruck Digital Literacy Programme, a community-based initiative designed to boost employability and innovation among youth.

The graduates completed intensive, hands-on training in basic ICT skills, online safety, and digital innovation, equipping them with practical tools needed in today’s technology-driven job market. The programme targeted form four leavers and young jobseekers who face limited access to digital learning opportunities.

Dagoretti North Member of Parliament Beatrice Elachi presided over the graduation ceremony, which brought together community leaders, trainers, and programme partners to celebrate the milestone.

She said the graduation marked a turning point for the youth, noting that digital skills have become essential for jobs, entrepreneurship, and global participation.

“This graduation represents a shift from potential to possibility. Digital skills now open doors to jobs, businesses, and global opportunities. Through DigiTruck, our youth have gained both skills and confidence to build sustainable livelihoods and uplift their communities,” Elachi said.

The DigiTruck programme is implemented by Huawei Technologies as part of its wider commitment to digital inclusion. Instead of waiting for learners to travel to training centres, the initiative delivers digital education directly to communities, removing cost and access barriers that often lock young people out.

Huawei Technologies Kenya Director of Public Affairs Yuta Leng said the programme focuses on real impact beyond certificates.

“Digital inclusion must translate into real outcomes. By bringing training directly to communities, DigiTruck helps young people turn skills into opportunities and take part in Kenya’s digital transformation. This graduation shows what strong partnerships can achieve,” Leng said.

The DigiTruck itself is a solar-powered mobile classroom fitted with laptops, high-speed internet, and modern learning tools. It operates in underserved areas across the country, ensuring youth gain exposure to technology regardless of location.

Since its launch, the initiative has trained thousands of young Kenyans, improving employability, supporting entrepreneurship, and promoting inclusive economic growth.

The programme also supports national efforts to build a future-ready workforce as Kenya accelerates its digital transformation agenda. For the Dagoretti North graduates, the training marks not an end, but the beginning of new digital pathways into work, innovation, and self-reliance.
