Nairobi, Kenya – May 2026: St. George’s University School of Medicine has opened applications for its August 2026 intake, targeting students across Africa. The university says the intake aligns with the region’s academic calendar, helping students transition without taking a gap year.

Over the years, SGU has built a strong reputation in training international medical students. It has produced more than 25,000 graduates who now practice in over 50 countries. In 2026 alone, SGU students secured more than 800 US residency positions across 23 specialties, underlining its growing global footprint.

The university also offers wide clinical exposure through more than 75 affiliated hospitals and health centers in the United States and the United Kingdom. These placements aim to give students practical experience as they prepare for demanding medical careers.

SGU continues to strengthen its global partnerships. Since 2007, it has worked with Northumbria University to give students flexible study options. Through this partnership, eligible students can begin their studies either in Grenada or in the UK.

Students who complete the programme earn a Doctor of Medicine degree from SGU and a Bachelor of Medical Sciences degree from Northumbria University. The dual qualification is designed to equip graduates for opportunities in global healthcare systems.

Johannes Kraus, Regional Director for Africa at SGU, said timing plays a key role in shaping a medical career. He noted that the August intake supports students moving from local studies into the university’s MD programme without delays. He added that the strong record in US residency placements shows the global pathways available to African students.

The university also offers financial support to ease access. It provides a range of scholarships and financial aid options for international students. These include merit-based awards such as the SGU Medical Scholar Award, aimed at supporting high-achieving students from Africa and other regions.
