Bolt has committed Sh14 billion over the next three years to improve safety and raise awareness in Kenya. The company aims to enhance safety for both drivers and passengers through technology and education.
Linda Ndungu, Bolt’s General Manager in Kenya, stressed the company’s dedication to safety. “At Bolt, we take safety seriously. This investment will create a safer travel experience across Kenya,” she said.
The funding will support Bolt’s global safety team of over 500 specialists. These experts, based in Tallinn, Estonia, and worldwide, tackle safety challenges in the ride-hailing industry. “Our team develops innovative features to prevent incidents before they occur,” added Ndungu.
Bolt is rolling out new safety features, including unique four-digit pickup codes and trip counts for mutual trust. The company is also enhancing rider verification with stronger identity checks for added security.
Bolt will improve its Ride Check feature, monitoring rides in real time. If a route changes unexpectedly, riders will be notified. “We’re also introducing Trusted Contacts, which will send Ride Check alerts to friends or family if needed,” Ndungu explained.
With this initiative and the ‘Bolt Safety Team’ campaign, Bolt aims to educate the public on its safety features. The investment reflects Bolt’s mission to provide safe, reliable transport for Kenyans.
