Clinicians Slam Nairobi Governor Over 83-Day Health Crisis, Call for Mass Protests.

Clinical officers in Nairobi have accused the county government of gross neglect, citing a paralyzed health system that has denied residents access to essential medical services for nearly three months.

Speaking during a press briefing, Kenya Union of Clinical Officers (KUCO) National Chairman Peterson Wachira said most health facilities in Nairobi have either been closed or are operating below minimum capacity, leaving patients stranded and desperate.

“For 83 days now, many clinical officers have been off duty. Our dispensaries, health centers, and even level four hospitals are barely functioning,” Wachira said. “

Only a few can manage minor illnesses or emergencies. The rest have collapsed.”Wachira accused Nairobi County officials of frustrating efforts to resolve the impasse. “

We’ve had several meetings. Every time we’re about to agree, they derail the talks. It’s like they’re under instructions to sabotage the process,” he said.

The union has now called for mass demonstrations starting Wednesday. “We are inviting all Nairobians who have suffered due to this healthcare crisis to join us. This administration does not care about you,” Wachira declared.

Stephen Muthama, a senior clinical officer and reproductive health specialist, echoed the chairman’s sentiments, noting the governor’s silence is alarming.

“It’s shocking that after 83 days, the governor is still quiet. Even though he once promised to work with us, he has completely failed,” Muthama said.

“You can’t keep calling yourself ‘His Excellency’ when people are dying because you can’t provide healthcare.”He further criticized the health department’s leadership, terming them incompetent. “

Our facilities are in a deplorable state. Staff are demoralized. Patients are suffering. It’s time for action,” Muthama insisted. The union vowed to escalate protests if their demands remain unmet, warning of daily demonstrations starting next week.
