DCP Women Slam Ichung’wah Over Attack on Pastor Dorcas, Demand Apology and Vow Nationwide Action.

Nairobi, Kenya – The Women’s League of the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) has come out strongly against recent remarks by National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, accusing him of making defamatory and misogynistic statements targeting Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, wife of the party leader and former Deputy President.

During a political rally in Narok, Ichung’wah reportedly insinuated that Pastor Dorcas was involved in an extramarital affair comments that have triggered outrage from women leaders within the party and beyond.“To belittle her contributions in the name of political rivalry is both reckless and dishonorable,” the DCP Women’s League stated in a press conference held on Tuesday.

The group called the remarks “blatant, intolerant, and defamatory,” warning that such rhetoric undermines not only women in leadership but also the dignity of national discourse.

In a strongly worded press statement dated 22nd July 2025, the Women’s League condemned what they termed a growing trend of “reckless, sexist, and disrespectful utterances” by male political figures.“Such verbal attacks are not only deeply offensive, but they also reflect a disturbing culture of misogyny that has no place in a democratic society,” the statement read.

“We demand an immediate retraction and public apology from those responsible. The dignity of all women regardless of political affiliation must be upheld and protected.”

The leaders also condemned the recent arbitrary arrests and intimidation of women leaders, including Hon. Jane Kihara and National Youth Leader Wanjiku Thuge. They called the arrests a blatant abuse of state power aimed at silencing bold female voices.

Njeri Kahiga, a prominent party official, said the DCP is documenting Ichung’wah’s statements for submission to international human rights bodies.

She added that the party would not hesitate to mobilize peaceful protests and take legal action to defend women from abuse and intimidation.“If he’s not going to be arrested, we have organizations beyond this country that we’ll continue documenting these utterances with,” she said.

“We’re going to ensure that come election time, such members are not re-elected. We cannot allow individuals who spew hatred and disrespect to continue being referred to as Honourable Members.”

The party also criticized the Kenya Kwanza government for double standards, accusing it of ignoring misconduct within its ranks while clamping down harshly on dissenters. They pointed to the government’s silence over more than 25 reported cases of sexual violence during recent anti-government protests cases flagged by rights groups like FIDA Kenya and Usikimye.

Jane Njeri, another DCP leader, said the administration was on a downward spiral, weighed down by arrogance and repeated political blunders.“The Kenya Kwanza regime is sinking suffocated by pride, missteps, and widespread intimidation of dissenting voices. No one will come to its rescue. The people of Kenya are awake. History will not be kind to a government that chooses oppression over dialogue,” she warned.

The DCP Women’s League has vowed to keep the pressure on and said it will not sit back as women leaders are bullied, disrespected, or unlawfully detained.“Kenya belongs to all of us. We will not allow our democracy to be hijacked by misogyny and intimidation,” their statement concluded.
