Nairobi, Kenya, November 5, 2025 — Huawei has taken a major step in supporting Kenya’s transition toward a smarter and cleaner energy future with the launch of the Digitalization White Paper for the Energy Industry during the Huawei Kenya Energy Summit 2025 held in Nairobi.

The newly unveiled white paper provides a clear roadmap for the digital transformation of Kenya’s power sector, focusing on integrating smart technologies, enhancing grid resilience, and accelerating the adoption of clean and renewable energy solutions.

The document highlights four key areas driving this transformation — the creation of digital green power plants using digital twins and intelligent remote control systems; automated and smart grid inspection powered by advanced monitoring tools; self-healing distribution networks capable of autonomous fault detection and recovery; and the coordination of multiple energy sources through smart campuses to optimize efficiency and sustainability.

Collectively, these innovations aim to strengthen Kenya’s power infrastructure, improve reliability, and promote a low-carbon energy ecosystem aligned with the nation’s sustainability goals.

Speaking during the summit’s opening, Cabinet Secretary for Energy and Petroleum, Hon. J. Opiyo Wandayi, EGH, commended Huawei’s efforts in supporting Kenya’s energy digitalization journey.

“Huawei Kenya Energy Summit 2025 marks a major step in driving Kenya’s energy digitalization journey,” he said. “We applaud Huawei’s role in promoting smart grids and renewable energy integration. Kenya remains dedicated to achieving universal access to clean, reliable, and modern energy by 2030 through innovation, collaboration, and sustainable technology.”

The summit brought together stakeholders from the power and energy sectors, including ecosystem partners, to discuss how emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and smart grids can enhance operational efficiency, stability, and renewable energy integration.

Benjamin Muoki, Manager of Telecommunications and Service Delivery at Kenya Power, shared insights on the company’s ongoing digital transformation. He noted that Kenya Power has invested in a 100G national fiber backbone, SCADA automation, and cloud-based systems to boost operational efficiency, customer experience, and grid reliability.

Meanwhile, Samuel Cheng, Managing Director Enterprise at Huawei Kenya, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to accelerating Africa’s clean energy transition.

“Digitalization and innovation are redefining the energy landscape, with Kenya standing at the forefront of this transformation,” Cheng said. “Together with ecosystem partners, Huawei is shaping a smarter, more sustainable energy ecosystem for generations to come.”

Through this initiative, Huawei reinforces its role as a key enabler of Kenya’s digital energy agenda. The Digitalization White Paper provides practical guidance for stakeholders to modernize infrastructure, optimize resources, and accelerate the country’s journey toward a sustainable and intelligent energy future.
