Nairobi, December 9, 2025 — Dagoretti North MP Beatrice Elachi today led the official launch of the Huawei DigiTruck Digital Literacy Programme at Lavington Girls Secondary School, marking a major boost for youth empowerment in the constituency.

She was joined by senior Huawei executives Eng. Maureen Mwaniki, Government Relations Director, and Ms. Khadija Mohammed, Director of Communications and Public Affairs. They reaffirmed the company’s commitment to expanding digital opportunities across Kenya.

The programme has already attracted 250 registered youth who are now undergoing hands-on training at Lavington Primary School until December 22, 2025. Graduates will receive certificates and take part in an innovation challenge featuring prizes such as laptops, tablets, and smartwatches.

Speaking during the launch, Hon. Elachi stressed the importance of digital skills, especially for young people from informal settlements. She noted that digital literacy now forms the foundation of opportunity, opening doors to jobs, online businesses, global networks, and the confidence to thrive in a fast-changing world.

She also highlighted the growing adoption of digital and green technologies in places like Kawangware — from electric bikes and electric cooking to mobile-based services. She urged the youth to shift from being consumers to becoming creators and innovators. She added that the Huawei DigiTruck programme has already shown what is possible and will help transform the entire community.

Eng. Mwaniki encouraged the trainees to make the most of the opportunity, noting that the DigiTruck is in high demand across the country. She said Dagoretti North received special consideration because of its proximity to Huawei’s offices and emphasized the company’s commitment to uplifting local communities through sustainable digital empowerment.

The DigiTruck project is part of Huawei’s global mission to bridge the digital divide by equipping underserved populations with practical digital skills needed for economic growth and innovation.
