Nairobi, August 27, 2025 – Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) has signed a landmark cooperation agreement with Nestlé Kenya Ltd and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), a move set to accelerate Kenya’s transition to clean energy and strengthen global climate action partnerships.
The agreement brings together the corporate sector, global knowledge leaders, and Kenya’s top power producer in what KenGen Managing Director and CEO, Eng. Peter Njenga, described as a bold step towards a greener, healthier, and more sustainable future.
“This synergy speaks volumes about the kind of future we are building – greener, healthier, and sustainable for generations to come. In Kenya, we call this Good to Great,” he said during the signing ceremony.
KenGen, which generates 90 percent of its 1,786 MW installed capacity from renewable sources, has positioned itself as the engine of Kenya’s green growth. Eng. Njenga noted that partnerships such as these are crucial in sparking innovation, refreshing conversations, and scaling up climate action across the region.
The signing comes ahead of the Second Edition of the KenGen Sustainable Energy Conference, set for September 17–19, 2025, at the Olkaria Geothermal Spa in Naivasha. The conference will bring together more than 500 participants – including governments, financiers, investors, and development partners – to discuss ways of accelerating Africa’s transition to clean energy under the theme “Renewable Energy for Sustainable Development.”
Nestlé Kenya joins the conference as the Official Refreshment Partner, supporting sustainability by promoting responsible consumption while energizing delegates throughout the three-day event. Eng. Njenga praised the company’s efforts in cutting carbon emissions, advancing circular packaging, and promoting healthier living, saying Nestlé embodies the spirit of powering progress responsibly.
At the same time, GGGI has been unveiled as the Official Knowledge Partner, tasked with bringing global expertise, financing solutions, and climate-smart policies to enrich the discussions. Eng. Njenga said this partnership will transform the conference into a launchpad for long-term collaborations and investments in clean energy.
Expressing gratitude to both partners, the KenGen boss underscored the power of collaboration in achieving sustainability.
“Together, we are proving that sustainability is everyone’s business. When the private sector, public sector, and knowledge institutions unite, real progress becomes unstoppable,” Eng. Njenga concluded.
