Kenyan Conman Jamal Bashir Hassan Exposed: Defrauds Indian Investor of Over $21,000 in Fake Coffee Business Scam.

A Nairobi-based fraudster, Jamal Bashir Hassan, is under fire after allegedly swindling Indian businessman Saad Mohammed out of $21,564 in a sham coffee export deal.

According to legal documents seen by this publication, Hassan convinced Mohammed to invest $20,000 as startup capital for a coffee business, promising lucrative weekly returns of KES 150,000. Mohammed, trusting Hassan’s proposal, even flew from India to Kenya in September 2024 to finalize the deal.

Between September and October 2024, Mohammed transferred a total of $21,564 in multiple transactions—$2,000 in cash, $9,035 via Juba Express, and another $10,529 through the same channel. However, after receiving the funds, Hassan allegedly vanished, failing to set up the business, provide proof of operations, or make any of the promised payments.

“Despite numerous requests, Hassan refused to allow our client to inspect the supposed business premises,” read part of the legal notice issued by Mohammed’s lawyers. “He has completely breached their agreement.”

The victim is now demanding full repayment of the lost funds, with Hassan given a strict deadline to respond or face legal action. Authorities are also being urged to investigate Hassan’s alleged fraudulent activities to prevent further scams.

Efforts to reach Hassan for comment were unsuccessful. His listed WhatsApp contact (0789 554 405) did not respond to inquiries.

This case serves as a stark warning to investors to conduct thorough due diligence before committing funds to unfamiliar ventures.
