Two winners of a trivia session at the SJAK 2025 AGM each went home with an LG Smart Inverter microwave oven
NAIROBI, Kenya, November 27, 2025 — LG Electronics East Africa (LG) brought excitement to the 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) with a lively trivia session that saw two winners get awarded LG’s Large Capacity 42L Solo and Grill Microwave Ovens.
The premium appliances feature LG’s Smart Inverter Technology, which delivers faster, more precise and even heating to improve cooking performance while preserving food texture and nutrients. They also boast LG’s Anti-Bacterial EasyClean™ interior, a hygienic coating that eliminates up to 99.99% of bacteria and allows users to wipe off stains and splatters effortlessly.
While presenting the appliances, Erick Onyango, LG Electronics East Africa’s Regional Cooking Product Manager, said the gesture was meant to appreciate SJAK for a partnership that has stood strong for more than 10 years.
To celebrate our decade-long partnership with SJAK, we gifted winners some of our latest smart kitchen appliances. It’s our way of showing how LG is making connected living easier and more enjoyable. As more homes embrace smart technology, we’re committed to creating appliances that bring convenience, efficiency, and a touch of innovation to everyday life,” he said.
LG and SJAK jointly ran the Sports Personality of the Month Awards for more than a decade, celebrating Kenya’s most outstanding athletes, including Faith Kipyegon, Ferdinand Omanyala, Hellen Obiri, Eliud Kipchoge and Karan Patel. The awards also spotlighted athletes whose achievements may not dominate headlines but whose commitment and talent deserve recognition, such as Samson Opiyo Ojuka and Sarah Achieng.
“At LG, we continue to innovate to make homes smarter and kitchens more efficient. We have expanded our portfolio with LG built-in appliances to complement our existing home appliance solutions, including Instaview fridges, WashTower machines, dishwashers, dryers and microwaves. Our built-in range adds modernity and luxury to kitchen spaces while offering a clean, minimalistic cooking experience. I invite consumers to explore our Instaview ovens, hobs, hoods, built-in dishwashers and microwaves available in LG Brandshops and leading retailers nationwide,” said Onyango.
Meanwhile, the AGM trivia set the tone for an eventful day in which SJAK President James Waindi announced that the association had admitted 22 new members, raising its fully paid-up membership to nearly 250. Waindi noted that this growth is particularly significant given the challenging media landscape, marked by layoffs, pay cuts and delayed salaries. He urged members to embrace digital content creation and emerging platforms to stay competitive in the evolving media environment.
The AGM brought together more than 80 attendees physically and hundreds virtually, reflecting both the association’s strong member engagement and its increasing national relevance.
