OKOA Nairobi Leaders Demand Dissolution of Sakaja Government Over Looting Claims

Nairobi, September 4, 2025 – Leaders from the Kenya Bora Tuitakayo (KBT) and OKOA Nairobi movements have launched a bold campaign to dissolve the Nairobi County Government, accusing Governor Johnson Sakaja’s administration of corruption, mismanagement, and betrayal of residents.

Speaking during a press briefing, KBT/OKOA Nairobi spokesperson Cyprian Nyamwamu painted a grim picture of the city, describing it as filthy, bankrupt, and abandoned under Sakaja’s watch.

“The disaster the current Sakaja-led Nairobi County government has become is evidence of what is wrong with devolution,” Nyamwamu declared. “There is no service delivery. Garbage is everywhere, drainages are clogged, yet we pay our rates and taxes.”

According to the group, Nairobi has accumulated pending bills amounting to Ksh.118 billion three times its annual budget making it technically insolvent. They alleged that over Ksh.120 billion has been lost through fraud since 2022.

Nyamwamu further claimed that President William Ruto and Azimio leader Raila Odinga shielded Sakaja from impeachment, accusing them of protecting a “looting machine” for political gain.

As part of their plan, OKOA Nairobi announced they would consult residents across all 17 constituencies and 85 wards to collect signatures for the dissolution of the county government. They also promised to involve the Auditor General in conducting a fraud audit to recover stolen funds.

“We call upon Nairobians to seize this opportunity to show that people power is greater than the people in power,” Nyamwamu said.

The leaders urged citizens to form accountability committees, register as voters, and rally behind fresh leadership ahead of the 2027 elections. They also opposed any attempts to amend the constitution before the polls, instead calling for strict implementation of the 2010 Constitution and a post-election review conference.

Nyamwamu, who has declared his bid for the Nairobi governorship in 2027, asked voters to reject both UDA and ODM, accusing the two parties of enabling corruption and sabotaging democracy.

“OKOA Nairobi is a movement to rescue this city from looters and incompetence,” he stressed. “We shall take Nairobi back and restore accountability and service delivery.”
