Kenya is bleeding, and no conditional apology will heal its wounds. The Okoa Uchumi Campaign has fiercely rejected President William Ruto’s vague regrets, demanding real accountability for lives lost, rights trampled, and public funds looted.
The government’s recent apology “To our children, if there is any misstep, we apologize” fell far short of justice. With over 60 youths shot dead, 89 citizens abducted, journalists intimidated, and Kenya’s sovereignty undermined in cross-border violations, the President’s carefully worded statement offered no admission of wrongdoing only empty words.
“There is no ‘if’ when the evidence is written in the wounds of a nation,” declared Okoa Uchumi. The group condemned the state’s failure to protect its own, pointing to recent cases of torture and the government’s rush to apologize to Tanzania while ignoring victims at home.

The betrayal runs deeper than words. This year’s budget slashed funding for education, healthcare, and child welfare while inflating budgets for security and presidential comforts. With pending bills at Ksh.706 billion and debt repayments exceeding Ksh.1.9 trillion, the campaign dismissed claims of austerity, declaring, “We don’t have a revenue problem—we have a greed problem.”
Okoa Uchumi’s demands leave no room for compromise. They want immediate investigations into killings and abductions, full audits of questionable debts, and restoration of gutted social services. They insist on enforcing constitutional principles that hold leaders accountable—not just in speeches, but in courtrooms and budget sheets.

“We are tired of apologies served at prayer breakfasts,” the group said. “Justice must move from whispers to action.” This is more than a campaign it’s a battle for Kenya’s future, where leaders answer to the people, not their own interests.
