United Opposition Unites Behind Joint By-Election Candidates in 2027 Game Plan.

The united opposition has unveiled a new strategy to strengthen its foothold ahead of the 2027 General Election by agreeing to field joint candidates in upcoming by-elections across the country.
The plan, unveiled during a high-level meeting on Monday, aims to prevent vote splitting within opposition zones and build a cohesive front capable of challenging Kenya Kwanza’s political dominance.
As part of the pact, Wiper Democratic Movement’s Magarini candidate, Samwel Kombe, stepped down in favor of Karisa Kenga from the Democratic for Citizens Party (DCP), who will now carry the coalition’s flag. In Malava, DCP aspirant Edgar Busiega also bowed out to back Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) candidate Seth Panyako as the unified opposition choice.
Leaders said the decision reflects growing maturity and coordination among opposition parties determined to consolidate support, avoid internal wrangles, and project strength ahead of 2027.
DCP Party Leader Rigathi Gachagua praised the agreement, saying it was shaped by local realities and driven by the need for unity.
“We brought our candidates together because their combined support guarantees victory in Magarini. This cooperation is a sign of political growth and respect for the will of the people,” Gachagua stated.
He added that the by-election strategy marks the beginning of a wider collaboration aimed at identifying a single presidential candidate to challenge President William Ruto in 2027.
“What we are seeing in these by-elections is only a rehearsal for the larger plan. The people of Kenya have made it clear that we must rally behind one presidential candidate,” he said.
The upcoming by-elections are meant to fill vacant seats created by resignations, deaths, or successful election petitions.
In a recent statement, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka reaffirmed the opposition’s commitment to remain united, emphasizing that only a strong and coordinated front can deliver meaningful change in 2027.
“Our unity is our strength. We are focused, we are ready, and we will move as one until the last vote is counted,” Kalonzo affirmed.
The opposition’s latest move signals a renewed sense of purpose and coordination one that could redefine Kenya’s political landscape as the road to 2027 begins to take shape.
