Nairobi, August 24, 2025 – The Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) erupted with excitement on Saturday as hundreds of gaming enthusiasts gathered for the 2025 Otamatsuri Gaming Convention.
The annual event, powered by Safaricom’s lightning-fast 5G network, turned the iconic venue into a high-energy arena where gamers competed, connected, and showcased their talents. The atmosphere blended competition with celebration, making it one of the most vibrant pop culture gatherings in Kenya.
Safaricom’s 5G connectivity was at the heart of the action, guaranteeing smooth gameplay and real-time online interaction. “We are proud to partner with Otamatsuri to power this year’s convention with our 5G network,” said Fawzia Ali, Chief Consumer Business Officer at Safaricom PLC. “It’s not just about speed and reliability, but about enabling experiences, connecting communities, and supporting the growth of gaming culture in Kenya.”
One of the biggest highlights was the electrifying Local Area Network (LAN) Party – an all-night gaming marathon where players brought their PCs and consoles to battle across shooters, sports, and strategy games. Otamatsuri was more than just gaming. The convention also celebrated pop culture with cosplay, movie and TV showcases, live performances, tech exhibitions, and merchandise displays. For veteran gamer Murray Lidambiza, who has been part of the scene for two decades, the event reflected how far Kenya’s gaming culture has come. “Seeing the community grow to this level is amazing.
