Caterpillar, Mantrac Celebrate 100 Years of Building Kenya.

Nairobi, Kenya – September 9, 2025 – Mantrac Kenya and Caterpillar on Tuesday marked 100 years of partnership with a colorful celebration in Nairobi. The event highlighted Caterpillar’s century of impact in Kenya’s growth and its promise to drive progress into the future.

The celebration brought together senior government officials, diplomats, corporate leaders, customers, and partners. Guests reflected on Caterpillar’s role in shaping Kenya’s infrastructure, from roads and bridges to schools, hospitals, and power solutions.

Mantrac Kenya Managing Director Mohamed Ibrahim opened the ceremony by reaffirming the company’s commitment to supporting development. Nigel Lewis, Chief Operating Officer of Mantrac Group, announced a new plan to sponsor 1,000 pupils over the next five years, including classrooms, water projects, and solar power initiatives.

Caterpillar Vice President for Africa Distribution, Lavanya Ajesh, praised the long-standing partnership and noted that through the Caterpillar Foundation, over $24 million has been invested in communities across Africa since 2015.

One of the day’s most inspiring moments came from 14-year-old innovator Samuel Omochi, who drove his homemade backhoe loader onto the stage. His determination moved the audience and sparked pledges of support. Housing assistance came from Housing PS Charles Hinga, while Mantrac promised tuition support, mentorship, and a future internship. A contractor also offered him a smartphone and laptop to nurture his dreams.

The celebration featured a lively panel on infrastructure and youth empowerment, cultural performances, and customer tributes. Guests also enjoyed a raffle with prizes worth over KSh 1 million, including a generator and a trip to Spain.

Closing the day, Caterpillar and Mantrac leaders said the centennial was not only a look back at a century of machines, but also a renewed pledge to empower people, communities, and future generations.
