In a seamless transition of power, former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya officially took over as the Cabinet Secretary for Cooperative Development from Simon Chelugui in a highly attended ceremony at the Ministry’s headquarters in Nairobi. The event, held on Thursday, was graced by senior government officials, cooperative sector stakeholders, and representatives from civil society.
Simon Chelugui, who served as Cabinet Secretary for Cooperative Development, leaves behind a legacy of transformative reforms, having spearheaded initiatives such as the digitization of cooperative societies and enhancing financial transparency. His efforts to involve the youth in cooperative activities were a key focus of his term, further positioning the cooperative sector as a vital contributor to Kenya’s socio-economic growth.
During the handover, Chelugui expressed confidence in Oparanya’s ability to carry forward the ministry’s vision. “It has been an honor to serve in this capacity. The strides we’ve made in improving the cooperative sector are a testament to the hard work of every stakeholder involved. I am confident that Wycliffe Oparanya, with his vast experience and leadership skills, will steer this ministry towards achieving even greater milestones,” Chelugui said.
