Kenyan Students Return Inspired from China After Huawei’s Tech and Culture Exchange.

Five Kenyan university students have returned home with new skills, global insights, and a renewed passion for technology after a week-long experience in China under Huawei’s Seeds for the Future 2025 program.

Held from July 21 to 25, the program brought together top students from across the world for an intensive blend of high-tech training and cultural exchange.

Representing Kenya were Shem Machii Ngunjiri (Dedan Kimathi University of Technology), Sophy Cherono Rop (United States International University–Africa), Huldah Mwihaki Kaura (Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology), Mungai Erick Gachuhi (Moi University), and Samuel Ochor Ogeno (University of Nairobi).

The students joined peers from countries including Brazil, Namibia, Portugal, Côte d’Ivoire, and Madagascar. Together, they explored emerging technologies such as 5G, Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, and Smart City innovations.

During the week, participants visited Huawei’s Exhibition Halls and Research & Development centers. They also toured the Smart Government Showcase in Longgang and the headquarters of DJI, the global drone manufacturer. These visits gave them firsthand exposure to real-world applications of cutting-edge innovation.

At the closing ceremony, each student received a certificate of completion, celebrating their active participation and growth during the program.

Speaking during the ceremony, Samuel Ochor captured the essence of the experience with a heartfelt reflection. “A seed starts in the dark, buried in the soil unseen, uncertain, unimportant, but full of potential… Thank you, Huawei ‘Seeds for the Future,’ for providing the fertile ground for our minds to flourish.”

Fellow participant Huldah Mwihaki Kaura shared similar sentiments. “The opportunity to interact with global experts and fellow students opened our minds to how innovation can truly drive change.”One of the key components of the program is Advanced ICT Training.

Students took part in hands-on sessions covering emerging digital tools and platforms, gaining practical skills and deep technical insight.In addition to the technical training, the program offers a platform for global networking.

Through roundtable discussions and expert forums such as one on entrepreneurship and AI careers students were able to connect with thought leaders and peers from different parts of the world.Cultural exchange also played a central role.
