Abagusii Leaders Fault Misuse of Community Name in State House Empowerment Program

By Peace Muthoka.

Nairobi – Abagusii leaders are calling for urgent action after claiming their community name was misused during a recent State House empowerment program. The leaders, led by community chairman Thomas Nyakundi, say the event held on September 8 took place without their participation, yet their name appeared on the program as if they were present.

Nyakundi says the Abagusii community feels deceived and disrespected. He explains that no official delegation from the community attended the empowerment program, and they were shocked to learn that another group allegedly used their name to gain recognition. According to him, the act amounts to impersonation and risks creating confusion among Kenyans who trust community leaders to represent them truthfully.

He says the community wants the truth made public and the individuals behind the scheme exposed. Nyakundi notes that the Abagusii leadership values honesty and cannot allow anyone to misrepresent them for personal gain. He also warns that using a community name without approval threatens unity and undermines ongoing efforts to strengthen relations between local leaders and the national government.

The chairman is now calling on President William Ruto to intervene and take firm action against those involved. He believes the President should protect communities from such exploitation, especially during national empowerment initiatives that are meant to uplift citizens. Nyakundi says the community stands ready to work with the President to ensure transparency in all future programs.

He also urged leaders across Kenya to respect ethnic communities and avoid misusing their identities for political or financial advantage. Nyakundi reminded the public that empowerment programs must be grounded in truth, trust, and participation, not deception.

The Abagusii leaders now want the matter investigated so the truth can be established. They say such actions should never happen again and insist the community’s name must be used only with full knowledge and approval of its leadership.
