The Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE) marked a momentous milestone during its 31st Graduation Ceremony, held at the institution’s headquarters in Kasarani on Dec 17, 2024. Over 1,400 graduates celebrated their achievements in special education, ready to champion the cause of inclusion and empowerment for persons with disabilities.
The event was graced by Mr. Joseph M. Motari, Principal Secretary for Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs, Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, who commended the graduates for their commitment to advancing the rights and well-being of individuals with disabilities. “Today, we gather to honor exceptional achievements of our graduates, who are now equipped to transform lives and advocate for a more inclusive society,” he remarked.

Dr. Norman Kiogora, KISE’s Director General, announced plans to extend the institution’s services to all Kenyan counties. This bold move aims to close gaps in specialized education, especially in underserved regions.
“We must make specialized education accessible to every part of Kenya,” Dr. Kiogora said. “Our mission is to ensure children with disabilities have opportunities to thrive,” he added. The expansion will create outreach programs, resource centers, and training facilities nationwide to support teachers, caregivers, and communities. This initiative aligns with KISE’s vision of building an inclusive society with access to quality education for all abilities.
Dr. Kiogora and the Principal Secretary highlighted education’s role in changing disability perceptions and promoting inclusion. They urged graduates to serve with purpose, confidence, and compassion as agents of change in society. The graduates will support individuals with disabilities, enhance lives, and advocate for their rights.
Dr. Kiogora reiterated that: “This graduation affirms our commitment to empowering persons with disabilities for a brighter, inclusive future.” KISE reaffirms its leadership in special education as it expands nationwide to champion inclusivity and leave no one behind.
