Boda Boda Operators reject Bill, Threaten Nationwide Protests.

Boda boda operators across Kenya have vowed to oppose a proposed Senate bill, calling it unfair and punitive. They claim the bill was drafted without their input and have rejected it in its entirety.

Speaking in Nairobi, the executive chairman of the Boda Boda Safety Association of Kenya (BAK), along with Nairobi County officials, criticized the bill for failing to involve key stakeholders.

“We were not involved in the drafting of this bill. Public participation is a constitutional right, but boda boda riders, who are the most affected, have been left out,” said the chairman.

One of their main concerns is the proposed weight limit of 50 kilograms for boda boda riders. According to the leaders, this restriction is unrealistic and will negatively impact the riders and their customers.

“This bill is impractical. The weight limit will hurt our businesses and make it difficult for us to earn a living,” said one of the officials.

In response, boda boda leaders have threatened nationwide protests if the bill is not withdrawn. They plan to mobilize millions of drivers, customers and supporters in all 47 provinces.

“We will not back down. If our voices are ignored, we will organize the largest demonstration this country has ever seen,” the leader warned.

Despite their opposition to the bill, the riders insist they are not against regulation. They want fair policies that support the industry and are willing to work with the government to create effective laws.

“We support order in our industry. We are not against regulation, but this bill is flawed. The government must consult us before making decisions that affect us,” the chairman added.

The boda boda operators are now waiting for a response from the lawmakers. If their concerns are ignored, they have vowed to take to the streets in protest.
