Nairobi, August 21, 2024 – Kenyan football fans will pack Kasarani Stadium in large numbers after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) approved an 80 percent capacity for tomorrow’s CHAN 2024 quarterfinal clash between Kenya and Madagascar.

Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, Salim Mvurya, confirmed on Thursday that CAF had granted Football Kenya Federation’s (FKF) appeal, allowing 36,000 fans into the stadium.

“Tomorrow we are happy to announce to all Kenyans that now in Kasarani we will have 80 percent attendance capacity, which translates to 36,000 fans,” said Mvurya, flanked by Sports Principal Secretary, FKF President Hussein Mohamed, and Local Organizing Committee Chair Nicolas Musonye.

CAF based its approval on the excellent discipline and organization displayed during Kenya’s previous match, where fans complied fully with safety regulations.

“The report officially presented to us by CAF reflects very good progress. They observed that the game last Sunday was in full compliance,” Mvurya noted.

He urged Kenyans to maintain the same spirit, stressing that continued discipline could open the door to a full-capacity stadium in future matches.

“This is good news to Kenyans. We want to reiterate that we continue to comply in the game tomorrow. It’s a big game, and therefore we urge all Kenyans to continue to comply, so that the next time we play 100 percent without any problem,” he added.

The Harambee Stars face Madagascar on Friday in a high-stakes quarterfinal that could edge Kenya closer to continental glory.
