CANAL+ and MultiChoice Celebrate African Women During International Women’s Month
By Peace Muthoka
Nairobi, March 6, 2026 — As the world marks International Women’s Month, CANAL+ and its subsidiary MultiChoice are shining the spotlight on African women whose talent and leadership continue to shape the continent’s stories.
Across Africa and beyond, women remain at the heart of storytelling. From actresses and directors to screenwriters and producers, they continue to bring depth and authenticity to productions that captivate millions of viewers on CANAL+ channels.
In entertainment, female talent drives some of the most loved productions on television. From gripping telenovelas to popular comedies and powerful drama series, women continue to elevate African storytelling and connect audiences to compelling narratives.
The influence goes beyond the screen. In sports, women continue to redefine competition and excellence. Whether on the field, behind the microphone or in leadership positions, female athletes and sports professionals are inspiring a new generation across disciplines such as football, tennis and athletics.
To honour these contributions, CANAL+ and MultiChoice have launched a special campaign titled “We are… because she is.” The 90-second promotional film, produced in both English and French, will air on the Group’s channels and social media platforms in more than 35 countries across Africa.
Throughout the month, viewers on DStv and GOtv will enjoy a lineup of female-led films, series and reality shows celebrating the strength, creativity and complexity of modern womanhood.
Locally, audiences can catch female-driven productions on Maisha Magic Plus, including Lulu airing Monday to Friday at 8:30 pm, Lazizi airing Monday to Friday at 8:00 pm, and Single Kiasi Season 3 airing every Friday at 9:30 pm.
The celebration will also feature international titles highlighting powerful female characters. These include Wonder Woman, where Gal Gadot brings the fearless Diana Prince to life; Ocean’s Eight, a stylish heist film led by an all-female ensemble; Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous, starring Sandra Bullock as a courageous FBI agent; and Lucy, featuring Scarlett Johansson in a gripping story of transformation and power.
Through these stories and campaigns, CANAL+ and MultiChoice say they aim to celebrate the women who continue to inspire households across Africa while shaping the future of entertainment and sport.
