Huawei, CS Kabogo Honour Cybersecurity Graduates at KSG Ceremony.

Nairobi, October 28, 2025 — The Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, Hon. William Kabogo Gitau, on Tuesday presided over the awarding of certificates to public officers who successfully completed advanced cybersecurity training at the Kenya School of Government (KSG).

The colourful ceremony, attended by Huawei Kenya officials and other key partners, formed part of the ongoing Cyber Week Africa 2025. It celebrated the July 2025 cohort of trainees who gained advanced skills to strengthen Kenya’s digital resilience and boost cybersecurity across public institutions.

CS Kabogo, who was the chief guest, congratulated the graduates and underscored the importance of cybersecurity in safeguarding Kenya’s digital space.

“The theme ‘Compliance by Design’ captures a paradigm shift in our approach. It means embedding security, privacy, and accountability into the design of every digital system from inception,” said Kabogo. “Cybersecurity is not just a technical necessity; it is a pillar of our national sovereignty and an enabler of economic growth.”

He revealed that Kenya recorded more than 8.6 billion cyber threats in the year ending June 2025 a sharp rise that calls for continued investment in cybersecurity skills and systems. The Cabinet Secretary reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring Kenya’s digital transformation remains safe, trusted, and inclusive.

Huawei Kenya Managing Director, Mr. Samuel Cheng, applauded the collaboration behind the training, saying it demonstrates Huawei’s strong commitment to cybersecurity innovation and capacity building.

“As an industry, we must ensure that our networks and systems are resilient and secure,” said Cheng. “Huawei is firmly committed to ensuring that our solutions are secure and to developing leading network security technologies. We have nearly 4,000 staff globally working in cybersecurity and invest five percent of our R&D budget in this area.”

He commended the government officers who received their certificates, noting that Huawei will continue partnering with ministries, agencies, and academic institutions to expand digital skills training nationwide.

Kenya School of Government Director General, Prof. Nura Mohamed, praised the collaboration between Huawei, the government, and development partners. He emphasized that KSG remains dedicated to nurturing a digitally skilled and competent public service.

“What we are trying to do is bring together all stakeholders so that we can drive the cybersecurity and artificial intelligence agenda, especially in the public sector,” said Prof. Mohamed. “That is why we have established the Regional Center of Competence for Digital Skilling and Artificial Intelligence, one of its kind, to guide the implementation of AI, digital skilling, and cybersecurity.”

He added that more than 10,000 public servants have already benefited from KSG’s digital programs and urged continued support to enhance the school’s training capacity.

Dr. Josephine Mwanzia, Senior Director at KSG and Chair of Cyber Week Africa 2025, said the graduation underscores Kenya’s commitment to building a secure, inclusive, and innovative digital future.

“Compliance by Design represents a major shift,” she said. “It means designing systems that are secure by architecture, accountable by default, and resilient by intent.”

The certificate awarding ceremony was among the highlights of Cyber Week Africa 2025 — a landmark gathering hosted at KSG under the theme *“Compliance by Design: Securing Africa’s Digital Future.”* The event brought together policymakers, industry leaders, and academics from across the continent to strengthen Africa’s cyber resilience and governance frameworks.

As the graduates received their certificates, CS Kabogo encouraged them to become champions of cybersecurity in their institutions.

“Today’s graduates are the guardians of our digital future,” he said. “Your work will determine the safety, trust, and reliability of our nation’s digital economy.”

The event concluded with a renewed call for stronger collaboration between government, academia, and the private sector to secure Kenya’s cyberspace and sustain its leadership in Africa’s digital transformation.
