Nairobi, Kenya, August 19, 2025 – Huawei, together with Hiperdist, KCB Foundation, and Digion/Smatrace Solutions Ltd., hosted a Smart Classroom Workshop at its Nairobi offices to demonstrate how technology can transform learning in underserved schools.

The workshop brought together representatives from 20 Muslim schools exploring the adoption of Huawei’s Smart Classroom Solution, a digital education platform designed to make teaching more interactive, accessible, and effective.

Held at the Huawei Exhibition Room, the event featured live demonstrations, school engagement sessions, and collaborative discussions. Teachers and administrators tested the tools first-hand, gaining insights into how to integrate digital platforms into everyday learning.

“At Huawei, we believe technology should be an equalizer,” said Maureen Mwaniki, Public Affairs Director at Huawei Kenya. “Our Smart Classroom Solution is designed not just to digitize education, but to democratize it—ensuring students from all backgrounds have access to world-class learning environments.”

A major highlight was the announcement that Steadfast Academy will implement the Smart Classroom Solution, becoming a reference school for others seeking to embrace similar infrastructure.

KCB also emphasized its commitment to inclusive education. “This partnership with Huawei reflects our shared goal of equipping schools with the tools and skills needed to prepare students for a digital economy,” said Virginia Mwangi, SME Specialist & Relationship Manager at KCB. She added: “We believe in the transformative power of technology to unlock opportunities, bridge gaps, and empower the next generation.”

The workshop builds on Huawei’s broader efforts to expand digital inclusion in Kenya’s education sector. Earlier this year, Huawei, UNESCO, and the government completed Phase II of the Kenya DigiSchool Connectivity Project, which delivered high-speed internet to 21 schools, including six institutions for learners with special needs. More than 10,000 students benefited directly, following Phase I, which reached 6,000 learners across 13 schools.

Evaluations of Phase I showed strong impact: 98% of students said the internet met their educational needs, 84% found learning more engaging, and 71% reported better understanding of complex concepts.

The Smart Classroom initiative also ties into Kenya’s Digital Superhighway Agenda and Vision 2030, which place technology at the heart of national development. It directly supports global Sustainable Development Goals, including SDG 4 on quality education, SDG 9 on innovation and infrastructure, SDG 10 on reducing inequalities, and SDG 17 on partnerships.

“The launch of Smart Classroom reflects Huawei’s commitment to deploying innovative technologies that connect people and make technology an enabler of productivity,” Ms. Mwaniki noted. “We want to ensure every student, regardless of background, has an equal chance to thrive.”

By bringing together partners and showcasing scalable solutions, the workshop highlighted the power of digital classrooms to reshape Kenya’s education system paving the way for a more inclusive, future-ready generation of learners.
