Nairobi, January 29, 2025 – Kenya Breweries Limited has committed KES sixty eight million towards the 2026 Magical Kenya Open, reinforcing its long-standing partnership with one of Africa’s most prestigious golf tournaments.
The sponsorship, announced in Nairobi on Thursday, will be delivered through KBL’s premium whisky brand, Johnnie Walker. It combines a direct cash contribution of KES twelve million with in-kind support valued at KES fifty six million, all aimed at enhancing the tournament experience.
Under the deal, Johnnie Walker will serve as the Official Alcohol Beverage Partner for the event. The fifty seventh edition of the Magical Kenya Open will run from nineteenth to twenty second February at the par seventy two Karen Country Club in Nairobi and remains a key fixture on the DP World Tour calendar.
KBL said the sponsorship will elevate the experience for players, fans, and partners. The company will offer premium hospitality and entertainment at the Tournament Village, giving spectators a chance to enjoy its world-class brands in a responsible and vibrant setting. In addition, the support will strengthen event logistics and operations, helping deliver a seamless and world-class tournament.
The Magical Kenya Open continues to draw top golfing talent from across the globe while positioning Kenya as a leading sports and tourism destination. The 2026 edition is expected to feature one hundred and forty four professional golfers competing for a prize purse of USD two point seven million.
Speaking during the sponsorship presentation at Karen Country Club, KBL General Manager for Spirits Alvin Mbugua said the partnership reflects the company’s deep-rooted commitment to world-class sport.
“Our support for the Magical Kenya Open through Johnnie Walker reflects our long-standing commitment to golf in Kenya and beyond,” said Mbugua. “Golf, like the Johnnie Walker brand, is built on progress, discipline, excellence, and respect for tradition, making this a natural fit.”
He noted that KBL has worked closely with organisers over the years to grow the tournament into a global event. “This sponsorship is about enhancing the experience for players and fans while ensuring the tournament remains memorable and well-run. We are proud to be part of an event that showcases Kenya to the world,” he added.
Kenya Open Golf Limited chairman Patrick Obath welcomed the continued support, saying strong partnerships remain vital to the tournament’s success.
“We sincerely thank KBL and Johnnie Walker for their consistent support,” said Obath. “This partnership has played a critical role in the growth of the Magical Kenya Open and has helped us deliver an event that meets international standards.”
He added that preparations for the 2026 edition are already in motion. “With strong partners on board, we can plan with confidence. Building on last year’s success, we expect a stronger field, an improved fan experience, and another memorable week of world-class golf.”
The 2026 Magical Kenya Open is expected to attract thousands of fans and international media, further strengthening Kenya’s reputation as a premier destination for elite sporting events.
Beyond the tournament, Johnnie Walker continues to invest in the growth of golf through player development pathways such as the Sunshine Development Tour East Africa Swing and the PGK Equator Tour. These platforms provide professional golfers with vital exposure and support their journey to elite international competition, reinforcing the brand’s long-term commitment to the sport under its Keep Walking philosophy.
