The Kenya Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka transformed this year’s October Fest into a celebration of World Coffee Day, turning Commons A into a lively showcase of Kenya’s globally renowned coffee.
Visitors from around the world flocked to the Pavilion to embark on an immersive journey through Kenya’s coffee heritage, experiencing the crop’s transformation from seedlings grown on volcanic highlands to the rich, aromatic brews served in cups across the globe. Guests had the opportunity to taste Kenya’s specialty coffee, engage in live demonstrations, and take home exclusive gifts, carrying a piece of Kenya’s coffee culture with them.
The celebrations were graced by Dr. Isaack Kalua and members of the Board of the Kenya Export Promotion and Branding Agency (KEPROBA), who also toured other international showcases, including the Saudi Arabia Pavilion—highlighting Expo 2030 plans—and the USA Pavilion, which focused on space science and innovation.
Speaking during the celebrations, Pavilion Director Maureen Mambo noted that coffee represents one of Kenya’s strongest cultural and economic exports:
“Kenyan coffee is a symbol of our nation’s excellence and resilience in agriculture. Each cup tells the story of generations of farmers, nurtured by fertile volcanic soils and guided by a culture of quality. At Expo 2025 Osaka, World Coffee Day has given us the perfect stage to connect with Japanese consumers, strengthen trade ties, and showcase why Kenya remains one of the world’s premier coffee producers.” — Maureen Mambo, Pavilion Director, Kenya Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka
Kenya is one of the world’s top producers of specialty Arabica coffee, grown in fertile volcanic soils and prized for its bright acidity, wine-like flavor, and distinctive blackcurrant notes. The sector supports over 700,000 smallholder farmers and contributes significantly to rural livelihoods and export earnings.
By transforming World Coffee Day into a full “Coffee Fest,” Kenya not only reaffirmed its leadership in the coffee sector but also energized the Pavilion as Expo 2025 enters its final countdown toward closing in October.
