June 19, 2026 – Culture, diversity and African unity came alive at Kigwa Ridge School during its 2026 Art and Cultural Day, bringing together learners, parents, diplomats and education stakeholders in a vibrant celebration of heritage and international friendship.

The event showcased a rich blend of cultural performances, artistic exhibitions and interactive exchanges aimed at strengthening appreciation of different traditions while promoting peaceful coexistence among young people.

Speaking during the celebrations, Kigwa Ridge School Principal Victor Omondi said schools have a responsibility to nurture culturally aware and globally minded learners in addition to delivering academic excellence.

He noted that in an increasingly interconnected world, education must help learners understand and appreciate different cultures while preserving their own heritage.

“Cultural exchanges expose learners to diverse traditions and perspectives, helping them develop respect, empathy and a sense of global citizenship,” said Omondi.

The event attracted representatives from Egypt, South Africa and Uganda, reflecting the school’s commitment to fostering cross-cultural understanding and building bridges among nations through education.

Former Cabinet Minister Chirau Ali Mwakwere challenged young people to embrace the positive values embedded in their cultures while remaining open to learning from others.

He said greater understanding of different traditions can help strengthen unity across Africa and create societies founded on mutual respect and cooperation.

Mwakwere emphasized that cultural diversity should be viewed as a source of strength capable of bringing people together despite differences in language, customs and background.

The Egyptian Ambassador to Kenya, Hatem Yousri Hosni, echoed the call for unity, noting that African nations share deep historical, geographical and cultural connections.

He praised the school’s initiative, saying such platforms help young people build friendships, break barriers and develop a deeper appreciation of one another from an early age.

The celebrations culminated in colourful cultural displays, traditional dances and artistic exhibitions that highlighted the richness of African and global cultures.

Participants left with a renewed message that diversity remains one of society’s greatest strengths and an important foundation for peace, understanding and unity among future generations.
