Nairobi – The People’s Liberation Party (PLP) made history today after delegates unanimously endorsed Hon. Martha Karua as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 General Elections during a charged Special National Delegates Conference (NDC) at Ufungamano Hall.

The endorsement was hailed as a decisive step toward liberating Kenyans from poor governance and ushering in a new era of integrity, accountability, and people-centered leadership. Karua, a seasoned politician and fierce defender of justice and constitutionalism, will lead the party under the banner: “Unite. Liberate. Transform.”

The delegates also ratified major structural changes to boost the party’s readiness to govern, including the creation of three Deputy Party Leader positions and the establishment of a 16-member Shadow Cabinet to mirror government ministries. The Shadow Cabinet will serve as a government-in-waiting, offering proactive policy alternatives and people-driven solutions to the country’s challenges.

In her acceptance speech, Karua struck a bold and defiant tone, declaring she only needs one term to return Kenya to the right path.

“I only need one term to restore integrity, end impunity, and return leadership to the people,” she said, to thunderous applause. “This is not about PLP. It is about Kenya, about mothers who want their children to dream again, about youth who demand dignified work, and about millions who yearn for a government that serves, not exploits.”

Karua accused the current regime of betraying Kenyans through corruption, impunity, and propaganda, promising that a PLP presidency would restore justice and fairness. She vowed to end abductions and extra-judicial killings, protect professionals like teachers and doctors, deliver universal healthcare, revive agriculture, and unlock opportunities for small and medium enterprises.

The conference brought together delegates, aspirants, and supporters from across the country, as well as representatives from allied parties including Wiper, Jubilee, DAP-K, and Democracy for Citizens. Karua emphasized that unity among opposition parties would be crucial in dismantling the machinery of oppression and reclaiming the republic.

“This is the moment to forge a broad front,” she declared. “We are one people, one purpose, one term.”

As the delegates rose in song and applause, PLP positioned itself not just as another political outfit but as a liberation movement ready to lead. With Karua at the helm, the party made it clear: 2027 will not be business as usual.
