NAIROBI, Kenya – August 7, 2025 — Thousands of vulnerable Kenyans have a reason to smile after the government disbursed Ksh. 4.6 billion under the Inua Jamii programme to cater for the delayed June and July 2025 stipends.

The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, through the State Department for Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs, confirmed that 1,151,917 beneficiaries comprising older persons and individuals living with severe disabilities have begun receiving their payments. Each beneficiary is entitled to Ksh. 4,000, representing Ksh. 2,000 for each month.

The delay in the June cycle was attributed to a nationwide data cleanup exercise. In a statement, Principal Secretary Joseph Motari apologized to beneficiaries for the inconvenience caused and thanked them for their patience and understanding.

“Inua Jamii remains a key pillar in the government’s efforts to cushion our most vulnerable citizens from poverty and hardship,” said Motari.

The cash transfer programme targets older persons aged 70 and above, persons with severe disabilities, and orphaned or vulnerable children. It is part of a broader strategy to promote social dignity and economic stability among marginalized groups.

The Ministry also encouraged all beneficiaries to register with the Social Health Authority (SHA) to access affordable and quality healthcare under the government’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) initiative.
