NAIROBI, July 2, 2026 — A group of Kenyans has formally notified the police of plans to hold a peaceful demonstration on Friday, July 3, to protest what they describe as the conduct and performance of Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife Rebecca Miano.
According to a notice dated July 1 and addressed to the Nairobi Regional Police Commander, the organizers intend to stage a peaceful assembly, procession and petition presentation in line with Article 37 of the Constitution, which guarantees the right to assemble, demonstrate and present petitions to public authorities.
The demonstrators are expected to gather at the National Archives in Nairobi from 9 a.m. before marching through designated public roads to the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife, where they plan to present a petition to the relevant authorities.
In the notice, the organizers claim that Miano has become excessively involved in partisan political activities at the expense of effectively carrying out her constitutional and statutory responsibilities within the tourism sector.
They further state that the planned demonstration aims to demand accountability, adherence to constitutional principles of public service and greater focus on the interests of Kenya’s tourism industry and the wider public.
“The demonstration seeks to call for accountability, adherence to constitutional principles of public service and the prioritization of the interests of the tourism sector and the Kenyan public,” the notice states.
The organizers maintain that the event will be peaceful, unarmed and conducted in accordance with the Constitution and all applicable laws. They have also urged participants to maintain public order and cooperate with law enforcement officers throughout the procession.
Additionally, they have requested the National Police Service to provide adequate security and traffic management to ensure the safety of demonstrators, members of the public, motorists and property during the event.
The notice was signed by Elisha Ochieng’ on behalf of the organizers and copied to the Inspector General of Police, the Nairobi County Commander of Police and the Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife.
By Thursday, there was no immediate response from the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife or the National Police Service regarding the planned demonstration or the allegations contained in the notice.
