KISM Backs e-GP Rollout to Boost Transparency in Public Procurement.

Nairobi, September 3, 2025 – The Kenya Institute of Supplies Management (KISM) has pledged full support for the rollout of the Electronic Government Procurement System (e-GP), calling it a bold step towards transforming public procurement.

The Institute noted that digitizing procurement will not only enhance transparency and efficiency but also close loopholes that have long undermined accountability in government contracts.

“With over 28,000 registered supply chain professionals forming the backbone of procurement, our members are fully engaged in this transition and remain committed to integrity and accountability,” KISM said in a statement.

To ensure a smooth transition, the Institute has already taken practical steps. Over the past two months, and in partnership with the National Treasury, KISM has trained 1,317 supply chain managers across the country. Moreover, more than 30 professionals are undergoing a Trainer of Trainers program at the Kenya School of Government, a move expected to expand capacity-building efforts.

Furthermore, the Institute pointed out that the shift to e-GP has received strong backing during high-level forums officiated by top government officials, including Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi. These forums resolved that supply chain professionals would not only embrace the system but also spearhead its implementation.

In addition, KISM highlighted its collaboration with the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) in running ethics training for practitioners. According to the Institute, this partnership will strengthen accountability while minimizing external interference in procurement processes.

Even as stakeholders raise concerns, KISM stressed that dialogue remains constructive. “We appreciate the feedback and proposals from stakeholders. While issues raised are being addressed, continuous training and sensitization must go on. Ultimately, the country wins when the full rollout of e-GP is achieved,” the Institute affirmed.

Looking ahead, KISM committed to remain at the forefront of offering training, technical support, and advisory services to ensure all professionals are well-prepared to navigate the new system.
