Nairobi, February 12, 2026 – SportPesa has unveiled a Ksh 20 million sponsorship for the 57th edition of the prestigious tournament, marking its bold entry into golf and reinforcing private sector belief in Kenya’s flagship international events.

The Magical Kenya Open, a key fixture on the DP World Tour calendar, has steadily grown into one of Africa’s most celebrated golf tournaments. Each year, it draws elite international players, global media attention and thousands of fans. As a result, it not only showcases top-tier competition but also boosts sports tourism and promotes Brand Kenya to the world.

Speaking during the announcement, SportPesa Chief Executive Officer Ronald Karauri made it clear that this was more than a sponsorship deal. Instead, he described it as a long-term journey.

“This is our grand entry into golf, and we are going to keep doing this for years to come,” said Karauri. “By supporting the Magical Kenya Open, we are investing in a platform that attracts world-class talent and enhances Kenya’s international reputation as a competitive host for premier sporting events.”

His remarks captured a wider vision. While golf may appear calm and calculated on the surface, it demands heavy investment, patience and strategic partnerships behind the scenes. Therefore, the Ksh 20 million boost arrives at a crucial time.

This year, 144 golfers are expected to compete for an enhanced prize purse of USD 2.7 million. The increased prize money not only raises the stakes but also strengthens the tournament’s appeal among elite players across the globe. Consequently, fans can expect even fiercer competition on the fairways of Karen.

At the same time, tournament organizers believe the partnership will elevate the overall experience for everyone involved. Kenya Open Golf Limited (KOGL) Chairman Patrick Obath welcomed SportPesa as the official gaming and betting partner, noting that such collaborations drive growth.

“We welcome SportPesa as the official gaming and betting partner for the Magical Kenya Open 2026,” Obath said. “Their support will help enhance the tournament experience for players, fans and partners while reinforcing Kenya’s position on the global golfing calendar.”

Over the years, the Magical Kenya Open has transformed into more than just a sporting contest. Indeed, it has become a meeting point for business leaders, investors and global sports stakeholders. In turn, it opens doors for new partnerships while projecting Kenya as a reliable host of world-class events.

For local golfers, however, the tournament carries even deeper meaning. It represents opportunity, pride and the dream of rewriting history. Ten Kenyan golfers will fly the national flag this year, including Justus Madoya, Dismas Indiza, Isaiah Otuke and Jacob Okello. Notably, Okello’s second-place finish at Muthaiga in 1998 remains the best performance by a Kenyan in the event’s history.

That near-victory still inspires a new generation. Each swing, each putt and each round played by Kenyan golfers carries the hope that one day, a homegrown champion will finally lift the trophy on home soil.

KOGL Commercial Director Ronald Meru emphasized the importance of partnerships in achieving that dream.

“In golf, we know success is never accidental. It takes preparation, precision and strong partnerships,” Meru said. “With SportPesa on board, we are not just aiming to host a great tournament, we are positioning the Magical Kenya Open for sustained growth and greater international prestige.”

Meanwhile, SportPesa’s investment in golf forms part of a broader strategy. Just weeks ago, the company announced a Ksh 120 million multi-sports sponsorship targeting rallying, boxing and rugby. Additionally, it maintains a Ksh 1.12 billion title sponsorship of the SportPesa League and supports clubs such as Gor Mahia FC, Murang’a SEAL and Shabana FC.

Therefore, the move into golf reflects a deliberate effort to strengthen Kenya’s entire sporting ecosystem rather than focus on a single discipline.

SportPesa Chief Commercial Officer Jason Gibson underscored that commitment, pointing to Kenya’s rising status as a global sporting destination.

“Kenya is increasingly positioning itself as a host for international sporting events across athletics, rugby, football, motorsport and now elite golf,” Gibson said. “We are proud to contribute to this journey by backing events that enhance Kenya’s global competitiveness.”

As preparations gather pace, excitement continues to mount among players, organizers and fans alike. Beyond the prize money and trophies, the 2026 Magical Kenya Open stands as a symbol of possibility. It reflects what can happen when corporate backing, sporting talent and national ambition align.

Ultimately, with renewed financial muscle, expanding global reach and growing local pride, the tournament now tees off into a new chapter defined by confidence, partnership and hope for a historic Kenyan triumph.
