NAIROBI, April 2, 2026 — Bamburi Cement Appoints Geoffrey Ndugwa as CEO in Strategic Leadership Shift Plc has appointed Mr Geoffrey Ndugwa as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective April 1, 2026, marking a key leadership transition as the company sharpens its growth strategy.
Mr Ndugwa takes over from Mr Mohit Kapoor, who exits after guiding the company through a critical phase of stabilization and transition.
The appointment was confirmed by Board Chairman Dr John Simba, who described Ndugwa as a transformative leader with a strong track record in delivering sustainable profitability and strengthening governance frameworks.
“The Board is delighted to welcome Mr Ndugwa. He is a seasoned business leader who has successfully held several strategic roles across the continent, delivering excellent corporate results,” said Dr Simba.
He added, “We also extend our sincere gratitude to Mr Mohit Kapoor for his leadership in stabilizing the business during a critical transition phase. We also want to extend our appreciation to the outgoing CEO, Mr Mohit Kapoor, who has stabilised the business and provided leadership at a unique phase of the business turnaround and transition process.”
Mr Ndugwa brings over two decades of experience within the Holcim Group, having held senior leadership roles across sub-Saharan Africa. He most recently served as Mergers and Acquisitions Projects Director for the Holcim Group Middle East and Africa region and previously served as CEO of Lafarge South Africa.
He holds a Master of Business Administration from Edinburgh Business School at Heriot-Watt University in the United Kingdom, a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering from the University of East London, and a postgraduate diploma in marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing. He is also a Chartered Marketer.
Mr Ndugwa began his career as a structural engineer before joining Lafarge Uganda in 2001. He later rose through the ranks, taking up key roles across the Lafarge network, including leadership positions in Nigeria, Malawi and Zimbabwe, where he served as Country Chief Executive Officer.
His appointment comes as Bamburi Cement intensifies efforts to expand production capacity and secure long-term clinker self-sufficiency.
The company, now a member of the Amsons Group, recently signed a US$250 million (Kshs 32 billion) Engineering, Procurement and Construction contract with Sinoma CBMI Construction Co., Ltd to build a clinkerisation factory in Matuga, Kwale County.
The new plant will produce 1.6 million tonnes annually and will incorporate advanced carbon-neutral technologies to reduce environmental impact.
Once complete, the project is expected to significantly boost production capacity, increasing clinker output from 1 million tons to 2.6 million tons, and cement production from 1.8 million tons to 4 million tons, strengthening Bamburi Cement’s role in supporting Kenya’s infrastructure development and economic transformation.
