Kenyans Urged to Donate Blood at KICC Ahead of Ushirika Day Festivities.

Cooperative Alliance of Kenya (CAK) has called upon kenyans to turn up in large numbers for a special blood donation drive set for tomorrow, July 3, 2025, at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), Nairobi.

The event, part of the activities leading up to this year’s Ushirika Day celebrations, is a joint initiative by Kenyatta National Hospital, Kenya National Blood Transfusion Services, and KICC. It aims to restock the country’s blood supply and save lives through the spirit of giving.

Speaking during a press briefing, Daniel Marube, CEO of the (CAK) said that the donation drive reflects the heart of the cooperative movement solidarity, compassion, and collective responsibility.

“This is not just about giving blood, it’s about giving hope. We are encouraging every able Kenyan to come out and donate. Your one pint could be the difference between life and death for someone else,” Marube said.

The blood drive officially kicks off a week of activities ahead of the national Ushirika Day celebrations, scheduled for July 12. It sets the tone for what promises to be a vibrant and impactful celebration of the cooperative movement’s role in Kenya’s growth.

Blood donation exercise is expected to attract hundreds of donors from Nairobi and beyond, especially young people and members of cooperative societies who continue to drive social and economic transformation in their communities.

As the week unfolds, exhibitions featuring over 70 cooperatives will also take place on July 11 and 12 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre. Visitors will explore a wide range of products and services while enjoying entertainment, cultural showcases, and an award ceremony recognizing outstanding cooperatives.

Ushirika Day 2025 is being marked during the International Year of Cooperatives under the theme “Cooperatives Build a Better World.” The celebration highlights the key role cooperatives play in areas such as food security, affordable housing, youth and women empowerment.

The Cooperative Alliance of Kenya is also advocating for stronger legal frameworks, increased youth involvement in leadership, and greater support from both the national and county governments.
