Nairobi, April 22, 2026 — The Jubilee Party has intensified calls for opposition unity as the Ol Kalou by-election approaches, positioning the contest as a key test of coalition strength ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking at a press briefing in Nairobi, Secretary General Moitalelel Ole Kenta confirmed that the party will field a candidate to defend the seat left vacant after the death of David Kiaraho.

Kenta said the party continues to mourn Kiaraho, describing him as a leader “whose life was defined by humility, service, and an unbreakable bond with the people he represented.” He added that Jubilee remains committed to preserving his legacy through a strong showing in the by-election.

“The Party will field a candidate in the upcoming Ol Kalou by-election,” Kenta said, noting that the process will be guided by “free, fair, and transparent nominations that reflect democratic values and the will of the people.”

As preparations gather pace, Jubilee is now urging its coalition partners to close ranks and back a single opposition candidate under its banner. Kenta framed the appeal as both strategic and necessary, arguing that disunity could weaken the opposition’s chances.

“In the spirit of building a credible, united, and formidable alternative government, Jubilee Party respectfully urges our coalition partners to support a single opposition candidate,” he said.

He described the upcoming vote as “a defining moment for the opposition,” adding that Kenyans are increasingly demanding a shift in political conduct.

“Across the nation, Kenyans are increasingly vocal and resolute in their demand for unity of purpose,” Kenta said. “They are calling for cooperation over competition, solidarity over fragmentation, and strategy over short-term political interests.”

To reinforce the message, Kenta pointed to past by-elections where Jubilee stepped aside to support joint candidates, including Mbeere North and Emurua Dikirr. He said the party’s approach has been consistent and guided by principle.

“This approach is intentional, principled, and aligned with the expectations of Kenyans who want leaders to act as one and present a credible alternative,” he said.

Despite the push for unity, Jubilee made it clear it is preparing for a full political comeback. Kenta said the party will field candidates across all elective positions in the next General Election.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Jubilee Party will field candidates in all electoral positions across the country, from MCA to President in 2027,” he said.

The Ol Kalou by-election is shaping up as more than a local contest. It now stands as an early signal of how opposition forces may align, or divide, as the race to 2027 begins to take shape.
