Amsons Foundation Unveils KSh4.5 Billion Maternal and Child Health Initiative to Expand Access to Lifesaving Care

NAIROBI, July 10, 2026 — Amsons Foundation has launched the Mama na Mtoto Kwanza initiative, committing USD 35 million (about KSh4.5 billion) to improve maternal and child healthcare across Kenya through expanded access to quality health services, stronger healthcare systems and partnerships with public institutions.

The initiative, one of the Foundation’s largest corporate social responsibility investments, seeks to bring essential maternal and child healthcare closer to communities where access remains limited. By reducing the distance many expectant mothers and young children travel to receive care, the Foundation hopes to improve health outcomes while giving more families access to timely, dignified and affordable healthcare.

The Foundation said the programme reflects its belief that sustainable development begins by protecting mothers and children, who form the backbone of every community. Beyond constructing healthcare facilities, the initiative aims to strengthen the entire maternal and child healthcare ecosystem by supporting healthcare workers, improving service delivery and empowering communities with better access to lifesaving medical care.

“Every mother deserves the confidence of a safe pregnancy, every child deserves a healthy beginning, and every family deserves access to healthcare that offers dignity, hope and a better tomorrow,” the Foundation said while unveiling the programme.

According to Amsons Foundation, many Kenyan families continue to travel long distances in search of maternal and child healthcare services, often delaying critical treatment. The Foundation believes timely access to antenatal care, skilled birth attendance and newborn healthcare can significantly improve the wellbeing of mothers and infants while reducing preventable deaths.

The Mama na Mtoto Kwanza initiative therefore seeks to bridge these gaps by ensuring essential healthcare services are available closer to the people who need them most. The Foundation noted that quality healthcare is not only about buildings and equipment but also about giving mothers access to timely care, ensuring newborns receive lifesaving attention during their most vulnerable moments and enabling families to receive trusted healthcare within their communities.

Besides improving healthcare access, the programme is expected to generate employment opportunities during implementation by engaging local contractors, suppliers and healthcare professionals. The investment is also expected to strengthen healthcare capacity, stimulate local economies and contribute to long-term social and economic development in the communities it serves.

Healthcare workers are also expected to benefit from better-equipped facilities that will enable them to provide quality services more effectively, while communities will gain confidence from having reliable healthcare closer to home.

Amsons Foundation said the success of the initiative will depend on strong collaboration with government agencies, healthcare professionals and local communities. The Foundation pledged to work closely with relevant public institutions to ensure the investment delivers sustainable and meaningful benefits long after the programme is implemented.

As the social impact arm of Amsons Group, the Foundation said Mama na Mtoto Kwanza represents more than a financial investment. It is a long-term commitment to healthier mothers, stronger families and future generations.

“The true measure of this initiative will not only be the USD 35 million invested, but the mothers protected, the children given healthier beginnings, the families supported and the communities transformed,” the Foundation said.

With maternal and child health remaining a key pillar of Kenya’s healthcare agenda, the Foundation expressed confidence that the initiative will help strengthen the country’s health system while creating lasting social impact. It said that by investing in healthier mothers and children today, Kenya will build stronger families, more resilient communities and a healthier future for generations to come.
