MAKUENI, KENYA — May 22, 2026 – Jumbo Chem Kenya Limited has marked its 15th anniversary by launching a major community project at Kasunguni Secondary School in Makueni County, shifting focus from traditional celebrations to improving students’ learning conditions.

The East African manufacturer of thermal insulation and soundproofing solutions unveiled the initiative on May 16, 2026, as part of its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) commitment. Under the project, the company completed a full-scale insulation of the school’s classrooms, dormitories and dining hall to create a more comfortable environment for learning.

The initiative, dubbed “15 Years of Insulating Kenya,” is expected to benefit more than 400 students at the school.

Before the intervention, students at Kasunguni Secondary School endured harsh weather conditions caused by iron-sheet roofing, with indoor temperatures reportedly rising above 34°C during the day and dropping to nearly 14°C at night. As a result, learning became difficult during hot afternoons, while cold nights exposed students to health challenges, including chest-related illnesses.

To address the problem, Jumbo Chem installed Jumbolene® thermal roof insulation across key facilities within the school. According to the company, the installation has reduced indoor temperatures by up to 10°C during peak heat hours, easing learning and living conditions at no cost to either the school or the Makueni County Government.

Speaking during the official launch, Dennis Awori, Board Chair of Jumbo Chem Kenya Limited, said the company chose to celebrate its milestone by investing in the future of local communities.

“As a corporate, we have a responsibility to the communities where we operate, and our ESG goals help turn that responsibility into action,” he said.

Awori noted that after operating in Kenya for 15 years, the company found it meaningful to give back through a project that directly improves education outcomes.

He further emphasized the long-term social and economic benefits of supporting community schools, saying improved learning environments can positively impact students, families and the country’s future development.

“Community schools like Kasunguni stand between aspiration and limitation. When children access better learning conditions, the impact extends beyond the classroom to families and entire communities,” he added.

The event brought together senior officials from the Kenya Association of Manufacturers, the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and representatives from the Makueni County Government.

At the same time, Jumbo Chem called on private companies to embrace community-driven growth by investing in projects that create lasting impact.

“Sustainable business must be rooted in community,” Awori said, urging companies to look closely at the needs of communities around them and contribute to meaningful change.
