Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura has urged former President Uhuru Kenyatta to keep off active politics and give President William Ruto space to run the country.

Speaking on Monday, Mwaura said leaders who have left office should allow the current administration to work without pressure. He said this approach promotes peace, unity, and stability in the country.

He explained that former presidents still have value as advisers and mentors but should not interfere with government operations.

Mwaura cited former US President Jimmy Carter, saying he chose to focus on charity work after leaving office. He said this is a good example of how retired leaders can serve society without causing political tension.

“When a leader retires, they should let those in office do their job. That is how we build peace. If there are issues, they should be handled through proper channels,” Mwaura said.

He stressed that clear communication is important to avoid conflict and protect national unity.

His remarks come shortly after Kenyatta defended his role in politics. Speaking during a Jubilee Party event, the former president dismissed calls for him to remain silent.

He questioned why he is being told to step aside yet previous leaders were allowed to stay active.

Kenyatta said he is still involved in politics but has no plans to run for any seat. He insisted he has a right to support and defend his party.

“I am in politics, but I am not seeking any position. I have a right to stand with my party. I am Jubilee by blood,” he said.

He also pointed to former US President Barack Obama as an example of leaders who continue to support their parties after leaving office.
