Kwambai and Lemayan Triumph at Thrilling Lewa Safari Marathon.

Mercy Kwambai and Samson Lemayan emerged victorious at the 25th edition of the Lewa Safari Marathon, held at Lewa Conservancy in Meru County.

Kwambai, a 36-year-old mother of two, defended her title in the women’s 42km race with a time of 2:47:17. Evaline Lagat and Monica Watetu followed in second and third place.

“The course was tough, but my training paid off,” said Kwambai. “This race helps me prepare for other competitions, and I love its impact on the community.”

In the men’s race, Samson Lemayan clinched victory with a time of 2:28:35. John Musee and Joseph Kariuki took second and third place.

“I struggled in 2018, but today’s win feels amazing,” said Lemayan. “The marathon’s growth and community impact are inspiring.”

Michael Kamau won the men’s 21km race, while Mary Waithera dominated the women’s category. Reuben Ng’ang’a and Sara Van Der Laan topped the 10km corporate race.

Winners of the 42km and 21km races each took home KES 150,000, with runners-up earning KES 80,000 and KES 60,000.

Safaricom CEO Dr. Peter Ndegwa praised the event’s impact. “We’re proud to support wildlife conservation and community transformation,” he said.

Over 1,400 runners participated, raising funds for wildlife protection. Since its launch, the marathon has generated over $9 million for conservation.

“This event connects people with nature while supporting wildlife,” said Lewa CEO Mike Watson. Sponsors included Safaricom, Huawei, Access Bank, and others. The marathon remains a key platform for conservation and athletic excellence.
