NAIROBI, Kenya, October 29, 2026 — The government has launched a 21-day Boma Yangu roadshow campaign across Nairobi, Kiambu, Machakos and Kajiado counties to bring affordable housing information closer to residents and help prospective homeowners navigate the registration and application process.
Affordable Housing Board (AHB) Chief Executive Officer Joe Mutugu, who presided over the launch in Nairobi, said the campaign would showcase available homes, explain payment options and provide on-site assistance to residents interested in joining the government’s Affordable Housing Programme.
Mutugu said the Board was showcasing 63 projects offering 107,960 housing units across social, affordable and market housing categories. Of these, 35 projects with 76,478 units are in Nairobi, while 28 projects with 31,482 units are located in the metropolitan counties.
“We are showcasing 35 projects with 76,478 units in Nairobi and 28 projects with 31,482 units in the metropolitan counties,” Mutugu said, urging residents to visit the roadshow stops and engage directly with programme officials.
The campaign will reach residents through mobile outreach activities in estates, markets, shopping malls and transport hubs. Information desks and field teams will help people activate their Boma Yangu accounts, understand the available housing options and seek clarification on registration, payments and other requirements. According to the Board, account activation can begin with a minimum contribution of KSh200.
Nairobi County Commissioner Simon Osumba also urged residents to take advantage of the roadshows, saying the activations would give them an opportunity to learn about the programme and the steps towards homeownership. “I call upon all Kenyans to take time to visit the various stop points that the Boma Yangu crew will make during the 21-day activation period, to learn more about the offerings and the process toward becoming a homeowner. Kwa kweli, Pata Makao na Boma Yangu,” he said.
Osumba encouraged civil servants and members of the disciplined services to explore opportunities under the institutional and staff housing programme. The Board says about 26,190 units are under construction nationally for groups including teachers, security officers and other public-sector employees.
Mutugu said the programme was also creating opportunities for local businesses and workers through construction and the supply of building materials and household fittings. Skilled and semi-skilled workers, Jua Kali artisans and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises are involved in supplying items such as doors, windows, metal fittings, timber products, paving blocks and furniture, as well as providing on-site fabrication services.
The Board says 313,910 affordable housing units are at different stages of completion across the country and will be released to the market as they become available. Mutugu said the programme was working towards easing Kenya’s annual housing deficit, although the pace of delivery will depend on the completion and availability of the units.
The roadshows are intended to give residents an opportunity to obtain information directly from housing officials before making decisions about applying for a home. Kenyans interested in the programme can register, view available units and begin their homeownership journey through the official Boma Yangu website at www.bomayangu.go.ke or by dialling *832#.
