UDA Issues Certificates as Omar Fires at Opposition

NAIROBI, March 31, 2026 — The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) on Tuesday handed nomination certificates to winners of its recent primaries in Samburu and Elgeyo Marakwet counties, as the party rallied support for its candidates ahead of upcoming contests.

The certificates were presented at the party’s Nairobi headquarters by Secretary General Hassan Omar, clearing the candidates to formally begin campaigns under the UDA ticket.

Those certified include aspirants from Poro Ward in Emurua Dikirr Constituency, Samburu County, and Endo Ward in Elgeyo Marakwet County. Party officials said the process followed a competitive nominations exercise aimed at identifying credible grassroots leaders.

During the event, Omar reaffirmed the party’s commitment to transparent and fair internal elections. He urged the candidates to uphold integrity, connect with voters, and focus on development-driven campaigns that address local needs.

At the same time, the UDA Secretary General launched a sharp political attack on opposition leaders, sections of the media, and a former president, accusing them of undermining the government and fueling division.

He defended the current administration as inclusive and reform-oriented, saying it is focused on long-term economic transformation. Omar argued that past leadership failed to address key challenges, instead weakening sectors such as agriculture and banking.

“The same people who failed to deliver are now trying to lecture the country on governance,” he said.

He also highlighted plans to establish a national infrastructure fund to support development using local resources. According to him, the initiative will reduce reliance on external borrowing while accelerating key projects through public-private partnerships.

Turning to the opposition, Omar accused some leaders of spreading propaganda and inciting ethnic tensions. He warned that such actions threaten national unity and urged Kenyans to reject divisive politics.

In addition, he criticised sections of the media, accusing them of bias and unprofessional reporting. However, he acknowledged the role of oversight, calling for accountability grounded in truth.

Despite the criticism, Omar maintained that the government remains committed to inclusivity, noting that more communities are now represented in leadership and public service.

The event, which began early in the morning, brought together party officials and stakeholders. It marked both a formal endorsement of candidates and a renewed push by UDA to consolidate support at the grassroots.
