Fake Protest Notice Targeting Tourism CS Rebecca Miano Sparks Misinformation Warning

NAIROBI, July 2, 2026 — A document circulating on social media claiming to announce a planned protest against Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano has been flagged as fake after multiple inconsistencies raised doubts about its authenticity.

The document, presented as a formal “Notice of Intended Peaceful Assembly, Demonstration and Procession,” purports to have been addressed to the Nairobi Regional Police Commander. It alleges that a group of “concerned citizens” intends to stage a demonstration in Nairobi on July 3, 2026, over the performance and conduct of the Cabinet Secretary.

However, scrutiny of the document has revealed several irregularities that cast doubt on its credibility. Among the red flags are broken and incomplete sentences, inconsistent formatting and other drafting errors that are uncommon in official correspondence.

The inconsistencies have led to the document being treated as unverified and misleading, with no evidence to confirm that it is an authentic notice of a planned public demonstration.

The incident has renewed concerns over the spread of misinformation on social media, where fabricated documents can easily gain traction and create unnecessary public anxiety.

Members of the public have been urged to verify information before sharing it and to rely on credible sources, particularly when dealing with content that could cause confusion, panic or disrupt public order.

Authorities continue to caution Kenyans against the circulation of unverified information online, noting that the spread of false documents undermines public trust and can fuel unnecessary speculation.
