Kinangop, April 27, 2026 — A major road upgrade in Nyandarua County is reshaping daily life in Chobe and Matundura, as residents welcome improved access and rising hopes for economic growth.
The Chobe–Matundura Road project is gaining momentum, with crews on site carrying out grading, leveling, and compacting works that are steadily turning a once unreliable route into a usable all-weather road. For years, the stretch remained a challenge, especially during heavy rains when transport stalled, isolating communities and disrupting the movement of farm produce.
That reality is now shifting as the road begins to open up the area and connect residents to key markets and service centres across the county.
The impact is expected to be immediate for local farmers, who depend heavily on dairy and potato farming. With better road access, they are likely to transport their produce faster and at lower costs, cutting losses and improving earnings. At the same time, the improved route is set to ease access to schools and health facilities, addressing long-standing challenges that have affected families for years.

The project forms part of wider infrastructure efforts led by Kinangop MP Zachary Kwenya Thuku, who has focused on improving rural connectivity to stimulate economic activity.
Even as residents applaud the progress, they are calling for quality work to ensure the road lasts. Many are urging proper drainage and culvert installation, citing the area’s heavy rainfall as a key concern.
One resident, Mr. Ng’ang’a, said the transformation has renewed hope in the community.
“We have suffered for many years. If this road is completed well, life will change completely for us. We are now hopeful that our produce will reach the market on time,” he said.

With construction ongoing, the Chobe–Matundura Road is fast becoming more than just an infrastructure project. For residents, it represents a long-awaited breakthrough that could unlock steady growth and improve livelihoods across Kinangop.
