NAIROBI, Kenya — The Movement for Democracy and Growth (MDG) is stepping up its preparations for the 2027 General Election, with party leader David Ouma Ochieng urging aspirants to embrace integrity, accountability and ethical leadership as the party builds its political team.

Aspirants seeking to contest on the party’s ticket gathered at the MDG headquarters along Masaba Road in Nairobi for a national meeting focused on leadership standards, the party’s values and its preparations for the next General Election.

Addressing the aspirants, Ochieng said MDG wants to nurture a new generation of leaders who place public service above personal interests and demonstrate honesty in the management of public resources.

“Our country needs people of integrity, upright individuals who are honest, principled, and committed to serving the public without corruption. As a political party, we place great value on integrity, accountability, and ethical leadership,” Ochieng said.

He added that building a better nation requires leaders guided by principles rather than personal gain.

“We believe that building a better nation begins with leaders who are guided by principles, not personal interests,” he said.

The meeting comes as political parties begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 polls. For MDG, the gathering offered an opportunity to bring together prospective candidates, reinforce its political message and discuss the leadership qualities it expects from those seeking its ticket.

Ochieng said the party was committed to fielding principled, accountable and people-centred candidates who understand that public office is a responsibility to serve Kenyans, not an opportunity for personal enrichment.

Beyond integrity, MDG is building its political message around equal opportunities, development and justice. The party says Kenya’s future cannot rest on campaign promises alone but must include accountable leadership and opportunities that reach ordinary citizens.

It has framed its agenda around three principles: “Maendeleo na Usawa” (development and equality), “Maendeleo na Uadilifu” (development and integrity) and “Maendeleo na Haki” (development and justice).

With aspirants arriving at its Masaba Road headquarters, the party is seeking to strengthen its organisation and prepare for what it describes as a serious contest for political power in 2027.

MDG says it is not merely preparing to participate in the next General Election but intends to compete for leadership, with Ochieng at the helm of its mobilisation and organisational efforts.

The party’s challenge will be to translate its stated principles into a clear political programme and demonstrate how its aspirants intend to address the concerns and aspirations of Kenyans.

As the election approaches, MDG is presenting integrity, equal opportunities and justice as the foundation of its campaign for a greater role in Kenya’s political landscape.
